OUR CLASS TRIP TO THE NATIONAL ART GALLERY

by Rang 3.

After having lunch at school, we walked to Dalkey train station to get the Dart into Pearse Street.  We walked from Pearse Street station to the Gallery.  We went in the back door and we were greeted very nice friendly man.  On the left I saw a bookshop, on my right I saw a café and then we entered a hall with magnificent paintings.  Then we were led into another room by a guide and we saw a painting of Charles Coote.  He looked really rich and looked like his favourite colour was pink.  He was wearing a pair of silver jodhurps and a t-shirt, he had a pink cloak(which was meant to be red) and he had white socks with pink flowers on them.  He had a silver sword with a golden rim on it.  Then we saw a picture of Gay Byrne.  The main colours were green and blue .  Gay Byrne was a famous Irish TV presenter who hosted the Late Late Show before Pat Kenny.  The next picture we saw was of Bono, the lead singer of U2.  Bono looked like he was sinking under the water with some sand on him.  Then we saw a painting of Mary Robinson, she was the first lady President of Ireland before Mary McAleese.  Then we went upstairs and saw the Finnish paintings.  The Finnish room was dark and the first painting we saw was called The First Lesson, which had a girl and a man in it.  The man was fixing a fishing net, the girl was reading a book.  The next painting was of a woman cleaning her clothes in a hole in the ice.  The last picure was Winter Fishing.  It had tow men sitting on sleighs fishing on the ice.  Then we returned back to school. I loved all of them.

Rang 4 visit Croke Park

We went to Croke Park on Friday the seventeenth of October. We went by bus. When we got there we first were shown the dressing rooms. There used to be one big bath in the middle of the dressing rooms for everyone to share. Now they have showers. Then we went to the training room to warm up and we did some push-ups there.
We ran up the tunnel out to the pitch where the crowd was cheering. There were sprinklers on the pitch to keep the grass in good condition. The stands are Hill Sixteen, Cusak and Hogan. There they had the biggest television in the world! We went to the top of all the seats to see the stadium from there. The journalists who write for the newspaper get to sit at the top.
There were green chairs for the VIP’s like the President and the Taoiseach.
Next we went to the museum. It showed a video of Bloody Sunday and how to make a hurl. We were then shown the Sam Maguire cup and the Liam  McCarthy cup. Finally we got a chance to play games to get better at gaelic and hurling.
After eating our lunch we went home having had a great day at Croke Park.

Rang 6 visit Kilmainham Jail

On the 19th of  November, we went on a trip to Kilmainham Jail. We had been learning about the 1916 rising, and the War of Independence.
Our class is really interested in it and we were happy to be going to see all of the cells of James Connolly, Eamon De Valera, Patrick Pearse, Grace Gifford, Countess Markievich, Eamonn Ceannt and many others.
It was really interesting, and our favourite part was going to the small chapel where Joseph Mary Plunkett and Grace Gifford were married. The way the tour guide explained it was really good, and it made us want to cry.
We also really enjoyed going outside where all the rebels were shot. We got to exercise the way the prisoners did! Walking around in a big circle staring down at our feet. It was very funny.
Another good thing was that we got to do was go into this big, huge room with circular balconies all around, so that the prison guards could see all the cells from anywhere. It was also used in two movies, one was the Michael Collins movie. We were amazed that the cells were different. Like Robert Emmet’s had a small fire, and was quite big. It also had a spy hole that the guards could look through. Charles Stewart Parnell’s was even better, with a big cosy armchair, a big fire, a nice window and a table. He got nicer meals and was treated very well in the jail. We also loved the way Grace Gifford had painted a really nice picture of Mary, and a colourful background.

Overall, we thought it was really good and we learned much more. It was a really good day.
